- Group Discussion is a process in which exchange of ideas and thoughts that takes place involving two or more people. Every discussion should have a conclusion when it reaches to an end.
What happens in Group Discussion?
- All the candidates are divided in a small group.
- Each group is then assigned a topic. (for ex: Chance favors the prepared mind )
- Few minutes(say 5min or 15min) will be given to each group.
- There will not be any specific time given to the candidate. So, Grab the opportunity to speak up.
- Candidate should take part in the discussion whether it is support or against they should say boldly and clearly.
- Just before end of the time limit (say 1 or 2min earlier) conclude your discussion.
Things to do before Group Discussion
- Increase your general knowledge, if you don't know in-depth try to be strong in what you know. Don't get confused during discussion.
- Read articles in newspaper and educational magazines.
- Improve your communication skill.
Things to remember during Group Discussion
- Be the first to speak. Sometimes topics in G.D. are irrelevant (for ex: "Humpty Dumpty"). There you need to think quickly about the topic and speak (for ex: "Humpty Dumpty is a poem I studied in U.K.G").
- Don't repeat your points frequently neither contradict your own point/points.
- Listen to others carefully and Don't interrupt any one speaking. Grab your opportunity to speak as soon as a group member finishes his words but don't interrupt in between.
- Never increase your voice pitch in anger neither decrease in shy. Talk normally as if you are talking to your friends.
- Sit properly on the chair. Don't lean back. Avoid shaking legs or any body part.
- Try to speak first, speak last and conclude your discussion.
